Or so the Story Goes (Digital Print)

Digital iris print made from 35 mm color slide, with laser-cut vinyl lettering. Printed on Somerset 330 Gram water color paper (with archival inks). The vinyl lettering is applied by hand directly onto the digital print. The sheet size is 30 x 22 inches. The Image size is 24 x 16 inches.

In 2001 Gingko Press published Supermarket, the first photo book by Rudy VanderLans. Shortly after publication, a selection of photos from the book were printed, which were shown at Gallery 16 in San Francisco in 2002. These were some of the very first digital prints VanderLans had made, and a few are still available. But to infuse these old prints with some new life, VanderLans decided to add short texts to the images sampled from the captions he wrote for the Supermarket book. The captions were inspired by the snippets of language VanderLans picked up from the signs and billboards that he passed while motoring through California.
